At the July CSNA general membership meeting, items of discussion included the 14th and U Farmers Market, the CSNA Development Showcase, the potential police redistricting, numerous bills introduced by Councilmember Graham, and ongoing DDoT transportaion studies. Special guests included representatives from the Mayor's Office of Community Relations and Robin Schuster of the Farmers Market.

· 14th and U Farmers Market – Robin Schuster provided an update on the 14th and U Farmers market. The market started on June 2, and operates every Saturday. The new hours of the market are from 9 am – 1 pm. The market is dog friendly. There are currently 9 producers at the market, and Robin’s goal is to have 17 producers in the future. To enhance marketing for the market, Robin would like to team up with nearby development sites to advertise with banners on nearby sites. Vendors accept “WIC” coupons (The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) as form of payment. Robin is also looking for musicians to perform at the market. Robin also suggested that CSNA setup community space at the Farmers Market.
· CSNA U Street Development Showcase – Jon Kardon provided an update on the U Street Development Showcase, which is an opportunity for residents and visitors of U Street to learn about the many development projects in the area directly from developers, city officials, and community groups. The Development Showcase takes place on Saturday, August 4, from 12 pm – 5 pm at 1436 U Street, NW, outside, at the M.A. Winter Building. · Mayor’s Office Update – Jackie Reyes-Yanes, Community Outreach Coordinator, Ward 1. Jackie stated that there was recently a “fightback” on the 1900 and 2000 block of 8th Street. One issue addressed at the fightback is to adjust confusing street signage at multiple locations in the area. Jackie also announced that the Banneker Pool at 2500 Georgia Ave. is open. In addition, Regional DC Public School Superintendent Francisco Millet is holding a special community meeting to discuss the selection of a new Principal of the Cardozo Senior High School on Monday, July 16th, at 6 pm, at 1300 Clifton Street, NW.

o Bary reviewed some of the recent bills that were recently introduced or acted upon: Fireworks Neighborhood Safety Act of 2007, Swap of Justice Park, Parental Equality for Domestic Partners, Domestic Partner Inheritance, Prohibition of Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity and Expression, Howard Theatre Disposition, and the Restaurant Audit Sufficiency Emergency Declaration Resolution of 2007.
o Enforcement of tavern food sale requirements has been deferred for another 6 months.
o Legislation passed allowing for businesses with live nudity entertainment to have a one time exemption to relocate to any CM District or M district in the city. These businesses would still be required to have approval from the ABC Board and Zoning Committee, and be 600’ from any residence. The bill is intended to provide relief to businesses that were forced to close because of the development of the Nationals baseball stadium.
o A hearing on the Litter Enforcement Act will be held on Friday, July 13.

o Minutes from the last ANC meeting are posted at www.anc1b.org o Quorum was not achieved at the July 5 ANC1B meeting. On Wednesday, July 18, an executive ANC meeting will be held to consider topics that could not be voted on July 5. o At the July 5 ANC1B meeting, topics covered include liquor licenses for Sala Thai, Solly’s Tavern, Abiti Ethiopian Restaurant, Axis Bar & Grill, Carbonero Restaurant, Alero Restaurant, Duke City, and Saloon. o At the August ANC1B meeting, the agenda includes liquor licenses for Axum, Queen Makeda, Café Nema, Prince Hall Freemasonry, and Madjet. o Christine Szathmary suggested that CSNA become involved in the Prince Hall Freemasonry liquor license process.

· Treasurer’s Report: Chuck Baxter, Treasurer o The balance in the CSNA account as of July 1 was $10,695.55. There is $1,366.72 alotted for the Development Showcase, and $544.88 has been spent on the Vermont Avenue greening, and $1,919.53 has been spent on the HRP grant. The total available for general use is $6,864.42.
· Membership & Communications: Lynn Coffin, This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it o Robin Schuster suggested that CSNA promote the use of the UStreetNews Listserv to the community through palm cards, flyers, signups at Dog Days, and other forms of advertisement. The listserv has great potential to grow in membership as new residents move to the community.
· Transportation & Parking: Cheryl Cort This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it o Phil stated that a meeting will be held for the DDoT U Street Transportation study on Tuesday, July 24, at 2000 14th Street, NW, 2nd Floor Community Room, NW, DC, 20009, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. o DDoT is also conducting a 14th Street Transportation Study. o The Adams Morgan / U Street Link is making more frequent stops. Adams Morgan / U Street is also being considered for a future Circulator Bus route. o The Adams Morgan Business Improvement Partnership is planning to create a Podcast that promotes the “Link” and is seeking volunteers to participate in the Podcast. · Clean & Green: No Committee Chair o Lynn encouraged that someone volunteer for the Clean & Green Committee Chair position.
· Historic Preservation and Development: Ernest Springs This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it o Plans for redevelopment of the Anthony Bowen YMCA site on the 1300 block of W Street are on the July 26 Historic Preservation Review Board agenda.. The plans include over 200 residential units, a full YMCA with daycare center, and over 10,000 sf of retail fronting 14th Street. The historic facades will be maintained, and the new construction would be setback from 14th Street.

o Mayor Adrian Fenty has endorsed the Hospitality Resource Partnership Pilot. o A meeting will be held for the HRP on Friday, July 13 with the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services. o ABRA has questioned the extended hours of Town at 2001 8th Street. The proposed hours have the club open until 5 am on weekends, although new patrons could not enter the club after 3 a.m. o Nelly’s Sports Bar is scheduled to open on Monday, July 16. o Vinoteca, a wine bar with over 50 different wines by the glass, is planned to open at 1940 11th Street.

The redistricting would cause 14th Street and U Street commercial corridors to be split between 2D and 3D.
