The highlight over the past weekend was our successful Spring Cleanup which was held at Harrison Recreation Center--thanks to all who came out and cleaned the 'hood and ate some great wings, dogs, and burgers donated by Ben's Chili Bowl and Jin.  Also, from controversial new parking lots, to massive buildings, to a newlywed's dream home, new developments are happening in Cardozo Shaw. • Presentation from the DC Office of Planning on the Comprehensive Plan.

The DC Office of Planning is in the midst of updating the Comprehensive Plan for DC. The DC plan is amended every four years. The existing plan isn't user friendly. The Citywide element of the plan address economic development. The Office of Planning is projecting a growth of about 60,000 households in the city over the next 20 years and the plan will refect this growth. They are looking to submit a draft of the plan to the City Council in July.

The Office of Planning will be hosting a series of public hearings on the plan. The one for Ward One is May 22 at the Reeves Center and all are encouraged to attend.

Community Reports & Announcements

Rent Control Update- Councilman Graham's office was successful in defeating the proposal to eliminate many rent-controlled units in the city. Rather than a 10% rent cap, landlords will only be allowed to increase the rent by CPI+ 2%. The vast majority of rent controlled units will maintain this status.

At next meeting the DDOT U Street Transportation Summary is up for discussion. They will also be looking a the Mason' parking lot area, which is being developed as 14 wall units, and a move to place a liquor moratorium on the 1900 block of 9th Street.
